Research overview
Nielsen is a global media audience measurement and analytics company operating in 100+ countries; it separated from the consumer/retail data business (now NielsenIQ) in 2021. In March 2022 Nielsen agreed to a roughly $16B take-private deal led by Elliott Investment Management and Brookfield Business Partners, which closed in October 2022, ending Nielsen's run on the NYSE. As of its last public filings (2021) Nielsen reported revenue of about $3.5B and roughly 15,000 employees worldwide; Karthik Rao has served as CEO since September 2023.
- India launch
- 2007
- Maturity
- Multi-Function / Full-Stack GCC
Nielsen's India centers deliver audience measurement, media planning, marketing optimization, and content metadata services - spanning both technology/platform engineering and analytics-driven business services rather than a narrow back-office or single-function role, though independent confirmation of a formal 'GCC' designation was not found.
Location rationale
Nielsen's current published India footprint centers on Mumbai (regional headquarters, Commerz III, Goregaon) alongside two Bengaluru offices (Whitefield), an office in Hyderabad (Madhapur/Knowledge City), a Gurgaon office (DLF Cyber City), and a Kochi facility inside the Cochin SEZ. This does not match the on-file city set (Mumbai, Bengaluru, Gurugram, Vadodara).
